Carmine Malfitano


Research Associate at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre

Carmine Malfitano, PhD (C), MSW, RSW is a Social Worker in Research, registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, and psychotherapist. He is a trained CALM therapist and provides psychotherapy to individuals facing advanced cancer at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

As a Research Associate for the Global Institute of Psychosocial, Palliative, and End-of-Life Care and PhD student at the University of Ferrara (Italy), he is involved in several national and international research projects exploring a variety of important cancer survivorship and existential issues.

In the LGBTQ community, Carmine has acquired extensive experience as a clinician, activist, advocate, and outreach worker. He collaborated as a research consultant with the CruiseLab at the University of Toronto exploring issues related to gay men’s health.

He is trained in several psychotherapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness. In the community, he has experience working with individuals and couples coping with a variety of anxiety, depressive, and relationship difficulties.
